Math says that as we got the freedom in 1947, we celebrated the 1st Anniversary in 1948, 10th in 1957, 50th in 97, 60th in 2007, 65th in 2012 then it was 70th anniversary on 15th August of this year, i.e; 2017.
As of now, the math made it clear that 2017’s Independence day is 70th, now let us switch to the source that roped in this confusion:
It has all started with the Independence day speech given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2016. As Modi went addressing people calling it the ’70th Independence Anniversary’, the government websites and other sources went declaring the same so.
Check out the excerpt below:
My dear countrymen,
From the ramparts of Red Fort, I greet 125 crore, fellow countrymen – within and outside India, on the auspicious occasion of Independence Day.
On this 70th festival of freedom, we have a new resolve, a new resolution, a new enthusiasm, a new vitality to take the country to new and greater heights. Our freedom reminds us of the sacrifice of our freedom fighters and their devotion to the cause of freedom through struggle and sacrifice. On this occasion, we remember those young people who went willingly to gallows. We are breathing today in free India, thanks to Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel, Pandit Nehru and many other great leaders and people who struggled and worked consistently towards freedom of the country.
Appears like Indian media channels mistook the Modi’s speech that ended up confusing everyone, the confusion later became concrete with the wrong adoption of information from the websites.
Well, it seems that it is time to clear some things as soon as possible, remember, August 15th, 2017 is India’s 71st Independence Day and 70th Independence Day Anniversary.
