Why Do People Put On Weight Suddenly After Marriage?
We have all heard that people put on weight once they tie the knot, especially women. However, do you know the cause behind this? Though most brides-to-be go on a weight loss diet to look stunning on D-Day, they often tend to put on a lot of weight post marriage. If you are newly-wed and wondering what the cause of your expanding waistline is, have a look at the reasons below!
Your diet goes for a Toss:
Weddings take a toll on your body as you tend to eat too much and that too at weird hours. Right after the exhausting week-long affair, you go for your honeymoon trip wherein you again eat outside food.
The bliss of marriage makes you want to spend all your extra time with your partner. While that’s certainly an enjoyable aspect of being a newlywed, like many couples, you make eating a central part of the activities you enjoy together, and that can lead to unhealthy weight gain for the both bride and groom.
Not just that, you have several dinner parties to attend to get to know relatives, family friends, etc. So more often than not, at least one of your meals is outside food which is often rich in calories and low in nutrition. And saying no to these invites is usually not an option. All these soon reflect on your waistline.
Your eating habits change:
After marriage, you like to eat most of your meals together with your partner, so you’re more likely to eat foods that you wouldn’t normally eat because your spouse has a craving for them. In fact, partner influence over eating decisions is a large factor in weight gain after marriage.
For women, since it’s a new house, they have to adjust to the new routines and adapt to the eating habits of their in-laws/hubby. Hence, this change adds to the stress. A bad diet combined with stress means loss of nutrition. Owing to changes in schedule, deficiency of Calcium and Vitamin B is caused, which further leads to cravings at odd hours and lack of energy.
Not just this, increased time spent watching television together is another factor in post-marital weight gain, according to a study.
Your priorities change:
Admit it, when you were single you could easily get your way but after marriage, you often have to step down and let go of your choices. Your priorities change and you are often last on your own list. So you are either cooking your hubby’s favourite dish or eating leftovers because you don’t want to waste food. Managing work, household chores, kids, etc. coupled with a hazy eating pattern can leave you feeling exhausted. You are likely to indulge in cravings for the lack of satisfaction from your meals and put on weight.
Post-wedding, you care less:
Before the wedding, one always tries hard for looking stunning and this means food control, hours at the gym etc. However, post wedding, one tends to ignore fitness owing to so many responsibilities. Women often let go and do not bother much about their bodies or fitness. Gym hours are replaced by household work hours and diet as we mentioned goes for a toss.
