SHE Teams Give Bharosa To Women In Hyderabad
Telangana government introduced SHE teams with a moto to provide safety and security to women in Telangana and to make Hyderabad a SAFE AND SMART CITY. The program of SHE teams was launched on 24th October, 2014 with the aim of curbing eve-teasing in all aspects, in all forms, at all places, providing safety and security to women in the society, facilitating healthy environment for women’s mobility thereby building up confidence in women to fulfill the Telangana Government commitment of safe and secure Hyderabad City to women.
It is fulfilling recommendations made by the committee constituted on women’s protection chaired by senior IAS official Ms Punam Malakondaiah in a phased manner.
The SHE teams were started in Hyderabad constituted to punish eve-teasers and is successful, in which the police have registered 660 cases against 825 eve-teasers. Further, the TS government extended the functioning of SHE teams to all districts of the state.
Also, two ‘Bharosa’ centres were launched in Hyderabad city for assisting women in legal matters and to provide shelter to victims of trafficking.
Following the recommendations made by the IAS official, the government also started SHE cabs. A council was constituted along the IT corridor to exclusively work on women’s protection. Moreover, Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC) developed many mobile Apps to raise the safety of the women and provided solutions to women-related problems.
The RTC too is running as many special buses for women employees along the IT corridor and partitions too were installed in RTC buses separating male and female commuters. Now, the transport body is planning to install panic buttons and CCTV cameras in buses to ensure no crimes are committed.
