1.3 Million Indian Railways Employees Call For Indefinite Strike From July 11

The National Federation of Indian Railwaymen and Railway Unions have called for an indefinite nationwide strike from July 11, 2016. The strike is called to enforce the demands that have been pending for a long time such as review of the new pension scheme and the recommendations offered by the Seventh Pay Commission. This strike is deferred since April.

Indefinite strike

The committee has decided to serve Strike Notice on June 9. According to All-India Railwaymen’s Federation (AIRF) General Secretary S Gopal Mishra, this strike is inevitable owing to the attitude of the Central government over the charter of demands submitted more than six months ago.

M Raghavaiah, NFIR General Secretary said that “response of the central government on the charter of demands submitted in December 2015 has been very disappointing and casual. Consequently, the organisations of the central government employees- Railways, Defence, Postal, Income Tax, Central Customs and Excise, etc whose number is over 32 lakhs have taken a unanimous decision on 3rd June to go on indefinite strike from July 11.”
