A B.Tech Student Commits Suicide After India Lost Match To West Indies In WT20

After team India lost the semi-final match against West Indies in World Twenty20 on Thursday, a B.Tech student allegedly committed suicide in Gwalior. The girl who committed suicide left no suicide note that links her death to the cricket match, but her family said that she had prayed for India’s victory and was upset after India lost the match.

The girl was identified as Surabhi Kamthan, a student of MITS college in Gwalior. Police sources quoted the family as saying she had offered Prasad and had prayed for India’s victory. Her body was found hanging in her room in the morning.

Superintendent of police Harinarayanchari Mishra told, “It is too early to link the girl’s suicide to the cricket match. The theory is not confirmed. We are exploring all the angles in the course of our investigations.”

Her father works with the state excise department while her mother is a teacher. Police have started the investigations and has also said that they will soon confirm whether the suicide was committed due to India’s loss in the match or due to some other reason.
