Video: Child Brides Cry As They Are Forced To Marry Boys At Mass Wedding Ceremony

The heartbreaking video was taken in Chittorgarh, a city in Rajasthan that is prevalent for child marriages. In the video mass child marriage ceremony has been captured – showing 5-year-old girl crying inconsolably, as she is being forced to marry a 13-year-old boy by their families.

In the video, many young girls can be seen getting married to young boys. Six marriages took place in two days around the Akshaya Tritiya, a Hindu festival believed to be auspicious for child marriages in rural India.

According to the police, the ceremony took place at a secret venue outside the district, so that the police won’t be able to intervene in the act.

Child marriage is illegal in India under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act of 2006. Despite laws banning child marriage, a mass child wedding ceremony was organised.

The District Magistrate Ved Prakash has said, as soon as the culprits are found, the marriages of the children will be void and the court will take strict action against the perpetrators.
