Hyderabad: Pre Monsoon Showers To Continue In South Till May 20

Hyderabad: Pre-Monsoon rains across Telangana have brought down the temperatures drastically and have given marginal relief from the ongoing weather conditions. If the weatherman is to be believed, the pre-monsoon showers, which hit the city on May 1, will continue until the end of the month.

According to Skymet, pre-monsoon showers are likely to occur intermittently until May 20 and cities like Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune and Bhopal will receive rain during this period. The heat wave conditions may return only for a few days before the south-west monsoon sets in the region, the officials said.

According to senior officials from the Met department, the prevailing thunderstorm activity would persist over the city for the next five days as well, protecting the city from any kind of heat wave.

“The thunderstorms were a common activity in summer and would continue until the monsoon sets in. But the weather in the next two days would be dry in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh,” says Narsimha Rao, assistant officer at the Meteorological Department

Heavy rain that lashed the city on Monday night uprooted over 300 trees, damaged roads in many places and led to water stagnation in many areas. On Tuesday, the city recorded 7.5 mm of rainfall forcing the Indian Meteorological Department to issue a squall or hail warning for the next 48 hours.

Since May 1, the city has recorded 112.7 mm of rain against the seasonal average rainfall of 31.7 mm.

Experts predict that once the rains take a break, sometime next week, there are chances that the heat would return. “The rains have brought along a lot of moisture into the air, and once the temperatures rise, there would be a lot of humidity which in turn would make way for uncomfortable heat.”
However, the heat spell will not last long as the monsoon is on course to hit the region in the first week of June.
