Rocks From 4.5 Billion Years Ago Found From Formation Of Earth

Researchers found rocks dating from the birth of our planet 4.5 billion years ago. These are found beneath the crust of Earth. They are discovered sitting on the mantle of our planet Earth which is the region between the Crust and Core.

In our planet Earth Silicate Material found in layer took shape less than 50 million years after cooling. At the two separate regions of the globe, they found evidence of this layer. These two regions are known as Ontong Java Plateau in the Pacific Ocean and the Baffin Bay in North Atlantic Ocean.

During its first ten years through the accretion the size of the Earth is growing with the material collected in a series of collisions with other bodies. In an event that took place in that time involved our planet being struck by a body size of Mars.

“What we’ve found are surviving parts of Earth’s primitive mantle that have been preserved for four and a half billion years, and I think that’s kind of exciting!” said Richard Walker.

The parts of Earth`s mantle are still left over in the new findings largely unchanged since the ancient era. There are some mixed materials within the mantle due to multiple impacts and heating says researchers resulting in a largely homogeneous geological layer.

Radioactive isotopes can be examined to provide a record of events which occurred before so many years back to our birth planet. 182 –hafnium is the material formed due to radioactive decay. This element was present during solar system formation but no longer found on Earth.
