10 Of World’s 20 Most Polluted Cities In India, Delhi In 11th Position
All over the world there are many cities with most pollution. But among them half of the world`s 20 most polluted cities are in India said a World Health Organization in the report released on Thursday indicating industrial and vehicular exhaust were choking. Delhi the capital city is not the part of the polluted cities dropping to 11th position with smaller towns.
Iranian city is taking the first place in global pollution Zabol from Iran is in first place and Gwalior from India in Second position and Allahabad from India in third position.
Using the data till 2010 the report from WHO stated that Delhi is the most polluted place in India. The annual average concentration of particulate matter is considered in the report which is about 2.5 PM in 3,000 cities from 103 countries.
“These upcoming cities are public transport nightmare. These cities need to be made smart with relation to public transport and health,” said Sunita Narain, Director General of the Delhi based air pollution advocacy group the Centre for Science and Environment.
For last 15 years in the smaller cities such as Gwalior, Allahabad, Kanpur, Jodhpur, Ludhiana and Bhopal which are out paced in big cities according to India`s pollution watchdog data.
In India most deaths are caused due to air pollution and stands as sixth biggest cause according to WHO categories. This is according to air quality report by WHO in 1,600 cities.
“Probably some the most polluted ones in the world are not included in our list, just because they are so bad that they do not even have a good system of monitoring of air quality,” Head of public health, environmental and social determinants of health at the WHO, Maria Neira, said.
