World Oral Health Day Celebrated At Sukhna Lake
World Oral Health Day is celebrated every year March 20. On this occasion some eminent dentists and faculty members from PGI, Chandigarh came together at Sukhna Lake for a Walkathon. In this occassion nearly 150 people of all age groups participated in this Walkathon.
Professor Krishan Gauba, Says that “Conditions of teeth and gums are directly linked to one`s heart and lungs”. He also says to maintain Oral Health it is important that efficient brushing at least twice daily with fluoridated toothpaste and restricted food habits.
Gum disease is commonly caused by Plaque, which is colourless, sticky that builds on teeth has many types of bacteria. Gum diseases may be caused due to bad food habits. Gum Disease include Gum Swelling, Bleeding Gums, Tenderness over Gums, and last but the least Bad breath. This inflammation is called Gingivitis.
Dr Aditi Kapur, Associate Professor from Oral Health Sciences Center stress the importance of Flossing which is very important oral care. By not flossing properly we leave nearly 45 % of tooth surfaces unclean that which leads to Gum Diseases.
“Good Dental care practice can go long way in preventing many oral diseases”, says Dr Shipra Gupta, Vice president and Associate professor of Periodicals at HS Judge Institute of Dental Sciences.
Diseases like Heart Attack, Diabetes and pregnancy related issues are sometimes caused because of oral diseases. Bacteria from inflamed gums enter the bloodstream and stimulate proteins that can affect the heart which finally leads to Heart Attack. Gum disease in considered as the leading complications of diabetes. Smoking increases the risk of periodontal diseases. During pregnancy if the patient is suffering from periodontal disease the increased risk of premature babies and low birth-weight babies are observed.
So treatment for gums regularly and keeping them clean is very much important. Initially if you observe bleeding in gums, swelling and bad breath you need to start the periodontal treatment.
