New Delhi: A tweet to Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has one again seen a quick response when the minister extended a hand of help for a passenger travelling in the train. Pankaj Jain was travelling on the Yesvantpur-Bikaner train with his ailing father on Sunday when he requested for a wheelchair via a tweet to the rail ministry. To his surprise, he received an extraordinary help from the ministry.

Pankaj Jain, a businessman and Janata Dal (Secular) youth wing vice-president had taken his father to Butati Dham for treatment, which is around 35km from Merta Road. The train reaches Merta Road at 3.15am and halts only for 5 minutes. So, he was worried as how he and his sick father would deboard the train during a short halt.

He called one of his friend in Bengaluru who suggested him to ask for help from railway ministry via twitter. He tweeted to railway ministry on November 28 at around 6-7pm, asking for the train to be stopped for 10 minutes, for a wheelchair and for assistance in getting his father down at Merta Road as his father is paralysis patient.

 Railway ministry immediately responded to the tweet saying that needful will be done. To his surprise as soon as the train reached the station at 8:30 am, he found the station master, a few porters and railway staff waiting with a wheelchair at the platform. “They helped me and my dad in getting off and escorted me to the gate,” an impressed Jain said.

NWR chief public relation officer Tarun Jain said, “I got the tweet from rail ministry and immediately we made sure that railway staff along with wheelchair were available for the person in need at the railway station. Jain and his family have extended their gratitude to the station superintendent and other staff of North Western Railway.

Earlier this week, a woman passenger, who was travelling alone on an outstation train in Maharashtra, was immediately attended to by authorities after she sought help through a tweet directed to the Twitter handle of railway minister Suresh Prabhu. The woman, identified as Namrata Mahajan, was being harassed by a male passenger at Shegaon. After her plea for help, she was attended to by Railway Protection Force at the Bhusaval railway station. The alleged harasser was shifted to another coach.

Kudos to the alertness of Railway ministry!
