The cultural floral festival of Telangana.Bathukamma, entitled as the State festival of new born Telangana, is celebrated for nine days. The famed Bathukamma will now be a Telangana State festival. After formation of the New state, Telangana, CM KCR revived the celebration of Bathukamma as cultural pride of the Telangana state spreading it over 9 days. Here are few things we need to know about Bathukamma.
1. How Bathukamma Festival Took Its Origin
Chola Dynasty King Named Dharmangada used to rule South India and his wife prayed to Goddess Lakshmi for a child after losing Hundred sons. The baby survived inspite of many accidents and hence was named as bathukamma.
2. How It Is Celebrated
All beautiful and traditional women form a circle around the Bathukamma they preapred and start singing folk songs by clapping their hands and revolving around the Bathukamma which gives the essence to the festival and also immense pleasure to the viewers.
3. When It Is Celebrated
Bathukamma usually comes during the latter half of monsoon. Monsoon rains brings wide variety of flowers blooming in the uncultivated and barren plains of the region. Thus, it is also called as the flower festival.
4. Why Bhathukamma Is Celebrated
Bhathukamma is the festivals for Girls/Women. Girls usually pray to Goddess lakshmi in order to get husband as per their wish. It also teach the girls on how to takecare of their in laws and also her husband.
5. Popular Story Behind Bathukamma
Bathukamma festival has many myths behind its origin. According to the Hindu religious scholars and pundits, one myth regarding Goddess Gauri is that she after a fierce fight killed ‘Mahishasura’ the demon. After this serious act, she went into deep sleep due to fatigue on the ‘Aswayuja Padyami’ day. All the Hindu religious devotees strongly prayed with devotion and dedication for her to wake up. It is to be noted that she woke up on the Dasami day.
