Why Did Sita Married King Ram Ignoring Other Kings During Swayamvar?

Apart from being a religious book or manuscript, Ramayana is a great love story  which briefs the humankind how a the nuptial relationship of wife and husband has to be. The eternal of King Ram and Queen Sita bores witness how an ideal wife and husband should live together.

Being through the Ramayana though many questions arise in people’s mind while they ignore or deny the facts that it all happened just because it had to. Well, we have a few questions which are most commonly asked by the people usually after being through the epic manuscript.

“Was Sita ever happy in Ramayana? Ram had the glory of a King, what did she have except suffering? Why didn’t she protest?”

“If Ram loved his wife Sita so much, why did he not treat her better while she was alive?”

Answers of the above questions most the times was similar to the below mentioned one,

“Ram was a noble king. His first duty was towards his people. Sita understood that. She was an obedient wife and sacrificing mother, the ideal woman too. Celebrated for her compliance. She trusted her husband – there was no need to question hi.,”

Then this how feminists of current times would respond,

“What about Sita’s feelings? Surely one can be a king and still not have to banish your wife to exile on the suspicion of a dhobi? Sita trusted Ram blindly, but he betrayed her trust. Is that love?”

Adding a counter to the above misogynic would reply as,

“What do you mean what about Sita’s feelings and why didn’t she protest? Ram was a king for god’s sake. An ideal man. Maryada Purshottam – the ideal follower of rules.”

While here we would like to ask being honest and people with all sense right,

“Whose ideals? Whose rules? Were those rules fair?”
