Women’s Day Speech in English Hindi: International Women’s Day (IWD), also called International Working Women’s Day, is celebrated on March 8 every year. In different regions the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for women’s economic, political, and social achievements. Origin of International Women’s Day:

The origins of International Women’s Day can be found is in the struggle of working women in New York City. On March 8, 1908 there was a powerful protest of women garment workers. They went on strike for 13 long winter weeks and in the end they won. Inspired by this struggle, the German socialist leader Clara Zetkin proposed at a 1910 gathering of socialist women that March 8 be celebrated as International Women’s Day, and that the fight to get women the right to vote should be promoted on that day.

International Women’s Day is a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities. This year’s theme, “Empowering Women – Empowering Humanity: Picture It!” envisions a world where each woman and girl can exercise her choices, such as participating in politics, getting an education, having an income, and living in societies free from violence and discrimination.

International Women’s Day 2015 Speech in English:

International Women’s Day was first celebrated in 1911. The concept was proposed in 1910 at an International Conference of Working Women in Copenhagen. Then on 19 March 1911, more than one million women and men attended International Women’s Day events across Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. They were campaigning for women’s rights, including the right to vote, work and hold public office.

Since 1911, International Women’s Day has been held annually on 8 March. It is an important forum because:

• It celebrates the economic, political and social achievements of women, and their vital role in societies across the world, and
• It provides an occasion to reflect on and promote the work that still needs to be done towards true gender equality.

International Women’s Day is a crucial opportunity to keep women’s issues on national and international agendas. Despite greater protection for the rights of women – improved access to education; health care and employment – women still do not enjoy the same rights and opportunities as men in many areas.

March 8, 2011 marked the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day.

International Women’s Day is now observed in 68 countries, in some parts of the world such as Eastern Europe and China, it has a status equivalent to Mothers’ Day, where small gifts are given to mothers and grandmothers. In some countries it is marked by a public holiday. In other parts of the world, such as North America, Western Europe and Australia, International Women’s Day has maintained its strong political and social awareness theme.

IWD is now an official holiday in Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, China (for women only), Cuba, Georgia, Guinea-Bissau, Eritrea, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Madagascar (for women only), Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Nepal (for women only), Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Zambia. The tradition sees men honouring their mothers, wives, girlfriends, colleagues, etc with flowers and small gifts. In some countries IWD has the equivalent status of Mother’s Day where children give small presents to their mothers and grandmothers.

The new millennium has witnessed a significant change and attitudinal shift in both women’s and society’s thoughts about women’s equality and emancipation. Many from a younger generation feel that ‘all the battles have been won for women’ while many feminists from the 1970’s know only too well the longevity and ingrained complexity of patriarchy. With more women in the boardroom, greater equality in legislative rights, and an increased critical mass of women’s visibility as impressive role models in every aspect of life.

एक दिवस आता है और हम अपने आपको समूचा उड़ेल देते हैं, नारों, भाषणों, सेमिनारों और आलेखों में। बड़े-बड़े दावे, बड़ी-बड़ी बातें। यथार्थ इतना क्रूर कि एक कोई घटना तमाचे की तरह गाल पर पड़ती है और हम फिर बेबस, असहाय, अकिंचन।

महिला दिवस हम सभी का अस्मिता दिवस है। गरिमा दिवस या जागरण दिवस कह लीजिए। उन जुझारू और जीवट महिलाओं की स्मृति में मनाया जाने वाला जो काम के घंटे कम किए जाने के लिए संघर्ष करती हुई शहीद हो गई। इतिहास में महिलाओं द्वारा प्रखरता से दर्ज किया गया वह पहला संगठित विरोध था। फलत: 8 मार्च नियत हुआ महिलाओं की उस अदम्य इच्छाशक्ति और दृढ़ता को सम्मानित करने के लिए।

जब हम ‘फेमिनिस्ट’ होते हैं तब जोश और संकल्पों से लैस हो दुनिया को बदलने निकल पड़ते हैं। तब हमें नहीं दिखाई देती अपने ही आसपास की सिसकतीं, सुबकतीं स्वयं को सँभालतीं खामोश स्त्रियाँ। न जाने कितनी शोषित, पीड़ित और व्यथित नारियाँ हैं, जो मन की अथाह गहराइयों में दर्द के समुद्री शैवाल छुपाए हैं।

कब-कब, कहाँ-कहाँ, कैसे-कैसे छली और तली गई स्त्रियाँ। मन, कर्म और वचन से प्रताड़ित नारियाँ। मानसिक, भावनात्मक और सामाजिक-असामाजिक कुरीतियों, विकृतियों की शिकार महिलाएँ। सामाजिक ढाँचे में छटपटातीं, कसमसातीं औरत, जिन्हें कोई देखना या सुनना पसंद नहीं करता। क्यों हम जागें किसी एक दिन। क्यों न जागें हर दिन, हर पल अपने आपके लिए।

8 मार्च मनाएँ, लेकिन महिला दिवस सही अर्थों में तब होता है जब सुनीता विलियम्स सितारों की दुनिया में मुस्कुराती हुई विचरण करती हैं। तब जब तमाम ‘प्रभावों’ का इस्तेमाल करने के बाद भी कोई ‘मनु शर्मा’ सलाखों के पीछे चला जाता है और एक लड़ाई जीत ली जाती है।

मगर तब महिला दिवस किस ‘श्राद्ध’ की तरह लगता है जब नन्ही-सुकोमल बच्चियाँ निम्न स्तरीर तरीके से छेड़छाड़ की शिकार होती हैं। शर्म आती है इस दिवस को मनाने से जब ‘धन्वंतरि’ जैसी सास किसी हॉरर शो की तरह अपनी बहू के टुकड़े कर डालती है और एक समय विशेष के बाद एक राजनीतिक चादर में गठरी बनाकर न जाने कौन से बगीचे के कोने में फेंक दी जाती है। जाने कहाँ चले जाते हैं वे मंचासीन सफेदपोश जो ‘भूमि’ के फोटो को माला पहनाकर खुद माला पहन कार का शीशा चढ़ाकर धुआँ छोड़ते दिखाई देते थे।

पहले उस राजनीतिक चादर की गठरी खोलनी होगी, जिसमें नारी जाति की अस्मिता टुकड़े करके रखी गई है। नन्ही बालिकाएँ अभी समझ भी नहीं पाती हैं कि उनके साथ हुआ क्या है और शहर का मीडिया खबर के बहाने रस लेने दौड़ पड़ता है।

कितना गिर गए हैं हम और अभी कितना गिरने वाले हैं। रसातल में भी जगह बचेगी या नहीं? एक अजीब-सा तर्क भी उछलता है कि महिलाएँ स्वयं को परोसती हैं तब पुरुष उसे छलता है। या तब पुरुष गिरता है। सवाल यह है कि पुरुष का चरित्र इस समाज में इतना दुर्बल क्यों है?

उसके अपने आदर्श, संस्कार, मूल्य, नैतिकता, गरिमा और दृढ़ता किस जेब में रखे सड़ रहे होते हैं? सारी की सारी मर्यादाएँ देश की ‘सीताओं’ के जिम्मे क्यों आती हैं जबकि ‘राम’ के नाम पर लड़ने वाले पुरुषों में मर्यादा पुरुषोत्तम की छबि क्यों नहीं दिखाई देती?

पुरुष चाहे असंख्‍य अवगुणों की खान हो स्त्री को अपेक्षित गुणों के साथ ही प्रस्तुत होना होगा। यह दोहरा दबाव क्यों और कब तक? एक सहज, स्वतंत्र, शांत और सौम्य जीवन की हकदार वह कब होगी?

स्त्री इस शरीर से परे भी कुछ है, यह प्रमाणित करने की जरूरत क्यों पड़ती है? वह पृथक है, मगर इंसान भी तो है। उसकी इस पृथकता में ही उसकी विशिष्टता है। वह एक साथी, सहचर, सखी, सहगामी हो सकती है लेकिन क्या जरूरी है कि वह समाज के तयशुदा मापदंडों पर भी खरी उतरे?

स्त्रियों के हालात सिर्फ हमारे देश में ही नहीं बल्कि समूचे विश्व में ही बेहतर नहीं हैं। झूठे आँकड़ों के डंडों से बेहतरी का ढोल पीटा जा रहा है। अमेरिका जैसे तथाकथित ‘सभ्य’ देश में हर 15 सेकंड में एक महिला अपने पति द्वारा पीटी जाती है। भारत जैसे संस्कारी राष्ट्र में हर 7 मिनट में महिलाओं के विरुद्ध एक अपराध होता है। हर 54वें मिनट में एक बलात्कार होता है।

जहाँ आँकड़े दिल दहलाने वाले हैं, वहीं आँकड़ों के पीछे का सच रुला देने वाला है। बशर्ते हममें संवेदनशीलता का अहसास बूँदभर भी बचा हो। ‘घरेलू हिंसा कानून’ जैसे कानून बनते रहे, मगर सच यह है कि हममें कानून तोड़ने की क्षमता अमलीकरण से ज्यादा है। बहुत मन होता है कि दिवस के बहाने कुछ सकारात्मक सोचें, मगर जब चारों ओर बलात्कार, अपहरण, हत्या, आत्महत्या, छेड़छाड़ प्रताड़ना, शोषण, अत्याचार, मारपीट, भ्रूण हत्या और अपमान के आँकड़े बढ़ रहे हों तो महिला प्रगति किन आँखों से देखे।

महिलाओं के प्रेरणादायी चरित्र गिनाए जा सकते हैं, मगर कैसे भूल जाएँ हम उस भारतीय स्त्री को जो गाँवों और मध्यमवर्गीय परिवारों की रौनक है, लेकिन रोने को मजबूर है। महानगरों में रंगीन वस्त्रों में थिरकती-झूमती, क्लबों में खेलती-इठलाती महिलाएँ तो कतई स्वतंत्र नहीं कही जा सकतीं। जिनकी अपनी कोई सोच या दृष्टिकोण नहीं होता सिवाय इसके कि ‘मैच’ के ‘बूँदें’ और सैंडिल कहाँ से मिल सकेंगे।

बजाय इसके स्वतंत्र और सक्षम मान सकते हैं उस महिला को जो मीलों कीचड़ भरा रास्ता तय करके ग्रामीण अंचलों में पढ़ने या प्रशिक्षण देने के लिए पहुँचती है। हम नमन कर सकते हैं उस महिला जिजीविषा को जो कचरा बिनते हुए पढ़ने का ख्‍वाब बुनती है और एक दिन अपना कंप्यूटर सेंटर संचालित करती है। मसाला, पापड़, वाशिंग पावडर जैसी छोटी-छोटी चीजें बनाती हैं और कर्मशीलता का अनूठा उदाहरण पेश करती हैं। हम महिला दिवस मना सकते हैं उन साधारण महिलाओं की ‘साधारण’ उप‍लब्धियों के लिए जो ‘असाधारण’ हैं।

महिला दिवस मनाया जाए उन तमाम मजदूर, कामगार और कामकाजी महिलाओं के नाम, जो सीमित दायरों में संघर्ष और साहस के उदाहरण रच रही हैं। एकदम सामान्य, नितांत साधारण मगर सचमुच असाधारण, अद्वितीय।

वे महिलाएँ जो तमाम विषमताओं के बीच भी टूटती नहीं हैं, रुकती नहीं हैं… झुकती नहीं हैं। अपने-अपने मोर्चों पर डटी रहती हैं बिना थके। सम्माननीय है वह भारतीय नारी जो दुर्बलता की नहीं प्रखरता की प्रतीक है। जो दमित है, प्रताड़ित है उन्हें दया या कृपा की जरूरत नहीं है, बल्कि झिंझोड़ने और झकझोरने की आवश्यकता है। वे उठ खड़ी हों। चल पड़ें विजय अभियान पर।
