#CO2 Levels Break Records, Sets India in Dilemma

Here is the news about global warming, India in dilemma for its increase in levels of CO2 in atmosphere. In the fast three months average CO2 levels has reached to the maximum heights. This is the first time CO2 levels higher than 400 parts per million (ppm). Which is the highest-ever in recent human history. the first time in recorded history all three months have reached such levels, according to the keystone Mauna Loa observatory in Hawaii.

As global CO2 breaks records, India faces dilemma

India stands top in many issues, but this issue is different we need to reduce the emission of CO2. India is the world’s third-largest emitter of CO2, the chief greenhouse gas. The 400 ppm mark is a milestone when it comes to CO2 levels in the atmosphere.

Ever-upward Global CO2 Levels :

These rising levels CO2 will have to be balanced against further climate change. This climate change of increase levels of CO2 brought on by uncertain rainfall, attributed increasingly to climate change. The first day to record such levels was May 9, 2013. During April 6 to 12 it recorded as, average carbon dioxide levels touched 404.02 parts per million i,e 15 percent above the levels of 350 ppm scientists say is ideal for Earth.

CO2 levels more than 100 ppm higher at any time in the last one million years. Now this year in fast few months in India we have recorded, CO2 levels higher than 400 parts per million (ppm). Charles Miller, Principal investigator at NASA’s Carbon in Arctic Reservoirs Vulnerability Experiment said, 400 ppm threshold was passed, it may even increase in future also. This may disturb the magnitude of this change is the fact that the rate of CO2 accumulation in the atmosphere.

In this year, April 2015 we have recorded the CO2 level above 400 ppm this is the tifrst time in human history. It has reached 403.26, nearly two points higher than the same month last year.

We are breaking the past records of our own in increasing levels of CO2. We need to think on this issue. If this is going to continue we would seriously face dangerous effects of it in future. You can observe the CO2 levels are being consistently increasing. The observatory in Hawaii has been recording CO2 levels since 1958, and annual CO2 levels have risen by 82.58 ppm since then to reach 398.55 ppm in 2014, that’s an increase of 1.47 ppm per year.

Why this matters to India ?

Increasing levels of CO2 have linked by the UN’s intergovernmental panel on climate change (IPCC), in a 2014 report. IPCC records the rising ocean and land temperatures as well as rising sea levels over the past 35 years.

There is no particular idea about the effects of Increasing levels of CO2. According to the reports of IPCC 2007, increasing in CO2 levels increases global warming results in melting of Himalayan glaciers in the near future have proven to be not credible. A series of studies have shown that un-seasonal rain and erratic weather unsettling the Indian farmer and the nation’s agriculture, economy and politics are no aberrations. What ever may be the scenario, it would effect the human life to large extent. It may not effect know but sure for the future generations.

World’s third-largest contributor India, it has unique position to affect atmospheric levels of CO2. The emissions are rising, its per-capita emissions at 1.9 metric tons are close.

As global CO2 breaks records, India faces dilemma

India has been listed in the most polluted cities. From the top 20 polluted cities 13 are in India. Path of industrialization and urbanization that India adopts has brought India here.

Disquieting data- bring domestic pragmatism (1)

India may take an uncompromising position globally to protect its own interests, but it’s difficult to ignore the warning signs from Mauna Loa.
