Amid reports of it developing its deep partnership with Amazon, Microsoft has announced that the Alexa devices will come with the feature of Skype calling. The latest move will help those users who have Amazon Echo speakers that not only helps in communicating with Alexa but also avails them the facility of contacting their friends and family by using their voice. This will greatly help in making and receiving Skype calls or to make paid SkypeOut calls to the phone numbers worldwide. According to the reports, the Skype team at Microsoft will introduce its experience due to which users will get to connect with their contacts by using an Xbox One or a mobile device by using Alexa. The fresh announcement comes amid the news that Amazon has announced to upgrade a range of its Echo devices as well as the Alexa-powered AmazonBasics Microwave, Amazon Smart Plug, and Echo Wall Clock.

“Users can make outgoing Skype voice and video calls, accept incoming Skype calls, and even make SkypeOut calls to most phone numbers around the world,” wrote Gaurav Sareen, Corporate Vice President, Microsoft in a blog post.

The team at the Skype is also not revealing any kind of concrete schedule about the calling support on Alexa, although it said that the new experience “will begin rolling out later this year.” The crucial advancement will become a factor for the customers to have a good reason in buying Amazon Echo device instead of choosing its rivals like Google Home models and Apple HomePod.

In August last year, Microsoft and Amazon announced their business partnership with the aim of integrating Alexa and Cortana to counter Google Assistant and Apple’s Siri. The clue to the tie-up was found after the arrival of Alexa on Windows 10 PCs. The integration of Alexa-Cortana was anticipated and was made public in August. Apart from that, earlier this month, the Redmond company also brought Alexa support to the Xbox One, but the rollout is said to be limited to Insiders of Xbox.

According to tech experts, the command receiving boxes are said to be a step further in the advancement of how we use the internet technology. And in future, when there will be the full-fledged internet of things implemented all over the world, these devices will play a crucial role in the technological advancement.
