40 Couples Were Arrested From Hotel Rooms In Mumbai For Public Indecency. Issue Went Too Far?

The Malvani Police had crossed the limits this time which are considerable. Earlier Malwani Police were suspended for behaving irresponsible in the context of liquor racket flourish right under their observation. About 100 people were killed in Mumbai due to this carelessness. Now the same Police had changed suddenly and had become moral police who targeted Hotels.

Police reached the hotel rooms and pulled the couples out. Around 40 couples had been caught by Police in Hotels and blamed them that it is considered as public indecency. These couples were questioned for a long time regarding this and were forced to call their parents and elders. This step taken by Police had been controversial in Mumbai whether this is correct or not?

A 19 year old girl confided to a Mid-Day reporter that she was extremely humiliated and that one girl in the group was beaten for asking questions. She also said that I am considering ending my life because of humiliation faced by me. The police had also raided on various other lodges in Madh Island and Aksa Beach.

This incident had become strong which had been blown out of proportion as various people have come to the support of these couple. The couples were also charged a fine of Rs. 1200. The catchy aspect in this incident was that the couples were charged for “public indecency” while they were in hotels.

A team from Malwani police under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner (Zone XI) Vikram Deshpande conducted the raid on Thursday around 3 PM. Several Hotels and lodges were targeted. People who were caught were made to call their parents and also charged Rs. 1200/- fine. The humiliation that they suffered is beyond limits said by the arrested people.

“The temerity in the Police act makes us question their power, which they have misused. Who gave them right to do so?” asked by the arrested couples. The reaction of the common people was so huge that they took Twitter to express their views. People are still debating if the police have gone too far in this case.
