‘5.5 Crores for Bus, Chief Minister?’ Says Farmer in Letter Before Suicide

A tobacco farmer of Andhra Pradesh wrote a letter to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu with a question before killing himself a week later. Distressed farmer Simhadri Venkateshwar Rao asked AP CM N Chandrababu Naidu in his letter that if he could spend crores on customizing a bus for his own safety then what is making him to concealing him to do something good for the hard-pressed farmer’s lives.

Farmer, Simhadri Venkateshwar Rao warned AP CM Mr. Naidu “For the sake of other farmers, I am ready to sacrifice my life” which also addressed to the Union Government in a letter composed by him before committing suicide on Tuesday drinking pesticide. Disturbed 49-year-old farmer was West Godavari district whose close aides said he was neck deep in loans taken for his son’s education and for the 33 acres of land he had leased to grow tobacco.

Cops who are probing this issue have claimed that yet another main reason behind the suicide of the Venkateshwar Rao could be huge hospital bills after an accident last year and his separation from his wife. Although no suicide letter was found with the deceased farmer while his last letter addressed to the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh Nara Chandra Babu Naidu and the Union Government is being considered as crucial clue ascertaining his cause of death.

“Will Bring his Family on Road”

In his letter Mr. Rao wrote “The Chief Minister, for his own safety, has spent Rs. 5.5 crore on modifying a (state transport) bus. If his life is so valuable, a tobacco farmer’s suicide brings his family on the road. Isn’t it the Chief Minister’s responsibility to ensure that even one farmer doesn’t commit suicide?”

Referred bus in the letter was accredited by AP CM Nara Chandra Babu Naidu last year after he planned to have tour to Cyclone Hudhud affected areas in the state to determine the impact of natural calamity. Deceased farmer, Venkateshwar Rao said “there were 14,000 tobacco farmers like me who are all in debt and have started committing suicide.” Although it has been ascertained if the letter addressed to AP CM and the Union Government has reached the addressee while it is being shared by the neighbors of the Mr. Rao.
