6.3 Lakh Cardholders In Hyderabad Don’t Buy Ration From PDS

Though the National Food Security Act implemented the PDS benefits for those who are eligible for it last year, according to the government`s subsequent drive Aadhaar seeding details with PDS to sort out bogus cards. At present, there are 6.3 lakh cardholders in Hyderabad who are not buying ration from PDS among the 13.21 lakh cards issued.

 From this, we can understand that bogus cards to be weeded out or just below poverty line families not interested to avail the government benefits. From the recent reports, it is declared that the implementation of Electronic point of sale system that uses biometric details from a PDS beneficiary before fair price shops of ration around Hyderabad.

It is said that around 2.6 lakh families that stay in Hyderabad and 3.73 lakh families in parts of Rangareddy district that fall under the limits of Grater Hyderabad that already have PDS benefits in May.  Even in last month the figures are same.

There are 35.5 PC savings in the month of April in Hyderabad and 37 PC in other parts of Rangareddy district which is similar to May savings.

“The savings for any month so far was in single digits. EPOS enables constant monitoring of fair price shops since it uses biometric data for giving supplies to beneficiaries. Now diversion of PDS commodities is not possible,” said B Bala Maya Devi chief rationing officer of Hyderabad.

M Gouri Shankar. District supplies officer, Rangareddy,  said, “We cannot say if all these are bogus cards too. A lot of people may be away on vacation. Some of them might not be interested in the availing ration. We are in the constant process of weeding out ineligible cards.”
