Actor Salman Khan Gets Relief Bombay High Court Suspends the Sentence of Sessions Court
In a huge relief to Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, the Bombay High Court on Friday suspended his 5-year sentence in the 2002 hit-and-run case and granted him bail pending his appeal against conviction. Khan was sentenced to five year jail term by Mumbai’s session court on Wednesday. The actor was granted two days of interim bail by HC on Wednesday night. Today on Friday Bombay High Court suspends actor Salman Khan’s 5-year sentence.
The High Court directed Salman Khan to surrender before the trial court forthwith and execute a bail bond of Rs 30,000. The court will be closing for summer vacation from May 9. The actor will have to apply for fresh bail once the court resumes work post vacation. The court will issue next directions on 15th June, and the hearing on actor’s appeal will take place in the months of July.

Background :
Actor Salman Khan was convicted for killing a man and injuring four others by ramming his car into a roadside bakery in Bandra on September 28, 2002. Delivering the verdict in the case that dragged on for over 12 years. Judge said “all charges” against the actor have been proved. On various other offences, including rash and negligent driving and driving under influence of liquor.
