Air India Serves Non-Veg Food To Jain Pilgrims On Leh-Delhi Flight

Government of India’s enterprise premium flag carrier owned Air India Limited (AIL) is facing mass agitation now after a disastrous and embarrassing failure since a few years. Air India which has been in the news so far with the ignominious fight of pilots in the cockpit to cockroach and lizard food served on its flight has been in the news with the again a disgraceful act.

Due to various wrong reasons Air India has been in the news again after serving non-veg food to the Jain passengers who were travelling in its flight. The Jain pilgrims were served non-veg who were travelling on Leh to Delhi on Saturday afternoon. This issue came to limelight lately while this had left the Air India into ignominiousness state.

The passengers who were offered non-veg food by the Air India staff, were returning from Sindhu Darshan festival. Jain pilgrims after finding themselves with the non-veg food with by extreme anger condemned the hospitality of Air India. Holy Sindhu Darshan festival which is held every year on full moon day (Guru Purnima) in the month of June marks  the celebration of River Sindhu for three days in Leh, Jammu Kashmir.

Responding to the regrettable act, Air India sources claimed that they have suspended two catering staff of assistant manager rank following the complaint of serving non-veg meals to Jain passengers with immediate effect. There was a prior intimation for “Hindu meal” before the start of the chartered Air India flight from the Leh airport on Saturday June 27, 2015.’

“The return price for the chartered flight ticket was in the range of Rs 24,000 to Rs 26,000 and it was expected of Air India to serve a special treatment to the passengers, but in real, it turned out to be a big embarrassment for national carrier’s credibility among flyers” said an Air India senior official. Director of Air India, NK Jain said “We have suspended the two catering staff members on the basis of the complaint filed by passengers and will issue a charge sheet seeking explanation. Final penalty will be decided after that” in this regard.

This incident of serving non-veg food packets to the Jain passenger gets added to the existing list of woes of Air India creating a state of extreme confusion and disorder for Air India to master and overcome them all in short time. This incident along with many past incidents has brought in denigrated status to the firm which may take a long time to get over them all with better services.

Air India which is known for its regular flight days has to take on these allegements which have been derogating it reputation. Air India is currently facing the formal accusation against itself including flight delays, unsatisfactory hospitality, stealing and smuggling. Air India has to look over these issues to expand its market in the aviation sector of India amid good competition from corporate firms with special attention.
