Airtel Moves All It’s Pre-Paid Customers To ‘Per-Second Bill Payment’

Bharti Airtel Limited, one of the top telecom service providers in India has come with good news for its customers. Airtel has announced that it is starting a new plan and all its Pre-Paid customers will be moved to ‘Per Second Bill Plan’. Ajai Puri, Director – Market Operations, Bharti Airtel had announced this plan as ‘Pay for What You Use’. This plan is applicable for all Airtel Pre-Paid customers across the country.

Airtel per second plan

“Our customers are the reason for us to be in business, we therefore constantly introduce innovative initiatives with a commitment to deliver a world-class experience to them. While we continue to invest aggressively in our network quality and deploy new sites to further enhance our robust & wide network presence, as yet another token measure of our commitment we are today taking the lead to move our customers to the affordable per second plans.”

The move comes amid regulator TRAI examining whether there are any tariff plans by the service providers wherein call drops actually incentivize or benefit the companies. Airtel said that Pre-paid customers constitute 94.4 percent of its total user base at the end of June 2015. Bharti Airtel has been driving its efforts to enhance customer experiences by delivering better service with rapid expansion for 2G, 3G & 4G services.

Airtel CEO Gopal Vittal

Bharti Airtel CEO Gopal Vittal said that a large majority of its prepaid customers were already on per second billing plan and with this initiative; the company will ensure that the entire prepaid mobile base is moved to per -second plan. “While customer’s standard base rate plans will be shifted to a pulse rate of per-second, they will have the freedom to opt for additional tariff discount packs of their choice for discounted per second or per minute benefits.”

The problem of call drops has become more in the last 3-4 months. Last week, PM Narendra Modi also voiced serious concern on the issue and asked the officials concerned to take urgent steps to address it. With call drops on the rise, Telecom Secretary Rakesh Garg had also said plans where customers get some free minutes and the billing is minute-based need to be examined.
