Amaravati Chosen as New Andhra Pradesh Capital

New Andhra Pradesh capital named Amaravati:

The masterplan for the state capital is being drawn up by experts in Singapore who handed a draft to Naidu earlier this week. He has suggested certain changes and the final plan is now likely to be ready by May 15.

The new capital has both “vaasthu balam and nama balam”, the chief minister said, suggesting that it is according to the ancient and traditional Indian science of architecture and also that the name carried a lot of weight and strength. He said a 200-km ring road will be built connecting the new capital with Vijayawada and Guntur.

Amaravati was home to the Satavahana dynasty 2,000 years ago. It is famous for Buddhist sites including a stupa built during Emperor Ashoka’s time.

National Waterway 4 has been proposed on two routes, Wazirabad-Vijayawada-Vodarevu and Wazirabad-Vijayawada-Rajahmundry-Kakinada. An airport has been planned at Mangalagiri, and five corridors will have high-speed railways. Industrial zones will be set up at Sattenapalle, Nandigama, Gannavaram, Nuzvid, Kondapalli, Tenali, Pamarru, and at two locations in the capital city, the newspaper reported.
