Amazon Agrees To Stop Selling Wildlife Specimens And Hunting Equipment
Amazon said it will stop the sale of products related to hunting equipment which is an action against the complaint from Animal rights activists. They complained that the hunting equipment is being sold on the e-commerce sites. Under the wildlife protection Act 1972, Amazon took a step to stop sales on that equipment.
Seahorses, starfish, rare beetles and butterflies also available for sale on Amazon says some group that campaigns for humane treatment of animals. This site also sold them at Rs 3000 and Rs 5000 online. Amazon told that they are talking to sellers to go back with their products to sell on their site.
“It seems incredulous that a company would list items like wild animal specimens that are listed under protected species in India. We hope Amazon will take these down immediately, respect India’s laws and wildlife conservation efforts,” said Kartick Satyanarayan, co-founder of Wildlife SOS.
“We have taken cognisance of the issue. Selling species like snake, alligator heads is banned as per the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972,” said M Maranko, regional director, Wildlife Crime Control Bureau.
