Ban on Navratri Garba for Non-Hindus by Vishwa Hindu Parishad in Gujarat

The word ‘BAN’ is again trending in social media and making news headlines after the call of action against non-Hindus by the religious group Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). While all these days, the ban was called upon by various institutions over non-living things such as a ban on the internet, Porn, Meat or Beef but not its turn of humans grounding their religions. VHP has called on a ban against the non-Hindu’s in the Navratri festival displaying banners across the Gujarat state.

Banners of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) were displayed at the entrances of garba venues across the state, putting forward that non-Hindus should not participate in the dance programmes calling it as a Hindu event and celebration. Leaders of VHP in Gujarat state have placed on banners  at over 100 garba venues displaying ban over non-Hindus taking part in the events being organized during the nine-day festivity.

 Gujarat state VHP media coordinator Jay Shah said, “We put up our first such banner at the entrance gate of Rajpath Club on S G Highway here today. Gradually, we will cover all other venues in the city, which are hosting garba events. VHP will put up such banners at around 100 such commercial venues across the state.”

VHP posters have a common message printed on them discouraging non-Hindus from entering the nine days festivity Navratri garba celebrations venue. The message on VHP banners is read as “Navratri is a sacred Hindu festival…People who don’t believe in idol-worshiping must stay away..This festival is for Hindus only.”

Measures to Stop Love Jihad

Ranchhod Bharwad, General Secretary of Gujarat VHP said, “we would take all all necessary steps to stop non-Hindus from entering the garba venues, including residential societies” last week. Other sources of the right-wing Hindu organization, said these as the necessary efforts to stop the other religions grooms and boys to marry Hindu girls in the name of LOVE JIHAD.

Added to this agitation of ban on non-Hindus at garba venues, VHP leaders are demanding the extension of time for garba celebrations during the nine-day Navratri festival organized in residential societies. The current time being permitted for the Navratri garba celebrations is till 12 am by the city police at all venues.
