Bharathi Veerath, First Woman Cab Driver In India Found Dead In Bengaluru
Here is the shocking news. Bengaluru’s first female cab driver Bharathi Veerath was found dead on Monday in her house in Nagashetty Halli. She was Uber’s first ever woman taxi driver in Bengaluru. She had famously driven Biocon Founder-CEO Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw on the occasion of Women’s Day in 2014.
Bharathi was found hanging at her rented house under suspicious circumstances. According to a report, it is suspected that Bharathi (40) have committed suicide.
The incident came to light when her car was found parked outside her house for a long time and the landlord went to check on her. The landlord found the door was locked and when he looked in through the window; saw her body hanging from the ceiling. There was no suicide note found in her house.
Bharathi is a native of Telangana was living in Bengaluru for the past 10 years. According to the Police reports, “Bharathi reportedly wanted to shift back to her hometown. She had moved from her hometown to Bengaluru in 2005 in search of a job and used to support her family by working as a tailor. She had worked with an NGO Sangama before taking up driving as a profession.”
“She had also informed her landlord about shifting her gas connection to Andhra Pradesh,” it added. In its statement at the time, Uber said, “Bharti, a budding entrepreneur herself works flexible hours on Uber, earns enough money to pay off her car loan, in addition to taking some home to support her family.”

After reports of her death, an Uber spokesperson said in a statement: “We are shocked and saddened to learn of the tragic death of Bharathi Veerath. Bharathi was a positive person and one of our top women driver partners. She was an inspiration to many driver partners and riders. Our thoughts are with her family.”
