Fugitive underworld don Chhota Rajan alias Rajendra Sadashiv Nikhalje, a one-time trusted aide of Dawood Ibrahim-turned-bitter foe, was arrested in Bali Indonesia on Sunday by Indonesian police. He is wanted criminal for many cases that include extortion, murder, smuggling, drug trafficking and film finance.

According to the source, Rajan dramatic apprehension, after evading the law for decades and surviving at least one assassination bid by the D-gang, was based on an Interpol red-corner notice and an affirmation of the do’s identity by the CBI. Rajan was hiding in Australia for the last seven years under the identity of Mohan Kumar.

Home Ministry officials said that Rajan was traveling in the guise of Mohan Kumar. After he boarded Garuda Indonesian Flight GA 715 at Sydney, a call from Australian Interpol to Indonesian Interpol ripped aside Rajan’s carefully constructed veil. It is believed that Dawood Ibrahim and Chhota Shakeel provided information to Australian Police to arrest Mohan Kumar alias Chhota Rajan upon his arrival in Bali.

The Australian authorities from Canberra, the Indonesian police intercepted Rajendra Sadashiv Nikalje alias Chotta Rajan soon after he landed at Denpasar airport in Bali. His arrest was on the basis of an Interpol red-corner notice issued against him.

Chhota Rajan arrest planned by NSA Ajit Doval in attempt to get info on Dawood:

Ajit Doval, 70-year-old National Security Advisor and VK Singh played a significant role in the capture of the notorious underworld don. He is the former head of the Indian Intelligence Bureau (IB) has been trailing Chhota Rajan and his henchmen to get leaks on D gang’s activities for years.

A media story brought him into lime light in 2008 when the IB reportedly planned to target Dawood Ibrahim at his daughter’s wedding with Javed Miandad’s son in Hyatt hotel, Dubai.

Ajit Doval last week spoke to the Indonesian agencies about the possibility of an Indian underworld don travelling to the country for vacation. It is believed, Doval struck a deal with the underworld don to provide information about Dawood and his whereabouts in return for his safe deportation to India.

After this deal was finalized, IB along with Interpol steered the arrest of Chhota Rajan through the Indonesian route as India could easily convince the authorities to deport their man without bothering about too much of red tape and bureaucratic jargons.

VK Singh also played key role in Chhota Rajan’s arrest:

MoS of External Affairs VK Singh was in Indonesia right before the arrest of Chhota Rajan, and if reports are to be believed, he has played a role in the arrest.

CNN-IBN quoted sources as saying that Singh was in Indonesia to ensure cooperation between the two countries and played a key role in the nabbing of one of the most wanted gangsters.

VK Singh along with seven other Indian officials travelled to Jakarta on October 22 to finalize the modus operandi with the Indonesian Security Agencies. Subsequently, the arrest was made on October 25 and Rajnath Singh was in the control room during that time.
