The Chinese government has ordered immediate rescue efforts. The landslide which was caused by the waste mud that hit so hard the buildings in the park resulted in burying buildings.
The China government officials ordered an investigation about the cause of the disaster. Moreover, it is said to be a man-made activity. Recently, China was affected with a huge chemical blast at the northern port of Tianjin killed more than 160 people. A wall of mud smashed into multi-storey buildings at the Hengtaiyu industrial park in the city’s north-western Guangming New District on Sunday morning.
The landslide caused a huge damage was build-up by the construction of waste mud in the vicinity. The accumulation of a large amount of waste meant that mud was stacked too steep, “causing instability and collapse, resulting in the collapse of buildings”, a report said. The official China Central Television (CCTV) reported that a nearby section of China’s major West-East natural gas pipeline also exploded.
The landslide covered an area of 380,000 square meters, a source close said. Locals told that hundreds of trucks carrying construction waste used to dump trash into the pile every day. 14 factories, 13 low rise buildings and three dormitories were among the buildings flattened. And 14 people had been rescued and more than 900 people had been evacuated from the site by Sunday evening.
The frequency of industrial accidents in China has raised questions about safety standards.
