Chittoor Mayor Katari Anuradha Shot Dead inside Office, Husband Injured

Chittoor mayor Katari Anuradha was shot dead and her husband Katari Mohan, a senior TDP leader, seriously injured in an attack inside the premises of Chittoor Municipal Corporation office on Tuesday. According to the reports, Anuradha and her husband were attacked by the gang of three members with knives and the attackers were escaped immediately after the attack, leaving the couple in a pool of blood.

Mayor Anuradha, who received severe knife injuries and bullet injuries in the head, died on the spot, while her husband was rushed to a local hospital in Chittoor. He was later shifted to Christian Medical College Hospital in Vellore where is condition was stated to be serious.

According to the sources, the property dispute may be the reason behind the attack.
Mr. Mohan is prime accused in the case of attempt to murder of former Chittoor MLA C.K. Jayachandra Reddy alias C.K. Babu a decade ago. C.K. Babu escaped in the attack while two of his gunmen were killed.

Two persons had surrendered to the Chittoor-I town police, but it was not clear whether they are among the attackers or had approached the police for protection in view of the volatile situation in the town. It was assumed that while the three attackers, two wearing burka, barged into the Mayor’s chamber, four others waited outside. All are believed to be from Karnataka. The police are dispatching special parties and closing check posts at the borders with Tamil Nadu and Karnataka
