West Indies star player Chris Gayle becomes the first player to hit a double century in World Cup. He scored 205 runs off 139 deliveries including 10 fours and 16 sixes against Zimbabwe at Manuka Oval. It was Chris Gayle’s 22nd ODI century of his career. It was not the typical Gayle innings, but was knock mixed with both caution and aggression.

It was Sachin Tendulkar who scored first double century in ODI Cricket matches in 2010. Now one more record joined in Chris Gayle Cricket career. He is the First Player to score Double Century in World Cup Match.

South Africa’s Gary Kirsten had held the record for the highest individual score at a World Cup for almost two decades, having made 188 not out against the UAE back in 1996.

He also passed the highest score by a West Indian at a World Cup, which was Vivi Richards’ 181 against Sri Lanka in 1987.

Gayle equalled the record for most sixes in an ODI innings previously held by Rohit Sharma (2013) and AB de Villiers (2015) with 16.

Gayle’s previous best was nine sixes in an innings, which he clubbed during an innings of 125 against New Zealand in Jamaica three years ago.
