Duminy Hat-Trick Record in ICC Cricket World Cup Knockout Quarterfinals Against Sri Lanka

South Africa sparked of a cherishable innings at the ICC Cricket World Cup Knock-out first quarter-finals match. JP Duminy of South Africa turns ut to be the eight cricketer to achieve this feat in World Cups as South Africa’s fifth bowler gamble pays off handsomely. Proteas cricketer Jean-Paul Duminy  is the first South African acquire hat trick at the ICC Cricket World Cup after banging up Sri Lankan cricket team middle order making a clear way for the South Africa to get through the knock-out stage. The incredible game for South Africa took place at the Sydney Cricket Ground quarter-final. The Proteas’ part-time offspinner took the wickets of Angelo Mathews, Nuwan Kulasekara and Tharindu Kaushal in consecutive balls across two overs as Sri Lanka crashed to 9-127 when a sudden downpour halted play at the SCG.

Jean-Paul Duminy  picked up the wicket of Angelo Mathews with the final ball of his eighth over before having Kulasekara caught behind off the first of his ninth. Duminy persisted in with is momentum picking up the wicket of Kaushal Silva playing his  one-day international who was replacing the injured Ragana Herath with the second ball of the ninth over. Sri Lankans crumbled feebly with the conjuring bowling  of J P Duminy with a new record of first South African to achieve this feat. Duminy stands by the side of elite group bowlers Lasith Malinga (twice), Chetan Sharma, Saqlain Mushtaq, Chaminda Vaas, Brett Lee, Kemar Roach and England’s Finn to have taken a hat-trick in a World Cup. On the other hand Lasith Malinga is the only cricketer to achieve this feat of acquiring hat trick twice at  World Cup hat-tricks, in 2007 and 2011, with his first effort, ironically against South Africa.
