His experience and spontaneous action has helped thousands of villagers’ lives.

Dam Disaster In Gujarat

A heavy rainfall has been put danger to the people in Gondal Taluka, Rajkot district, Gujarat. On June 24th Vekri dam has started overflowing and the villagers of Padvala and Charkhadi villages are in danger situation. An Engineer Harshad Bhimani had thought in a brilliant way and manually sealed the breach in the dam’s protection wall along with the villagers.

This was an intellectual idea made by the Bhimani. He had only 30 minutes to vacate the people in two villages; if not they would have been completely washed away by the overflowing water. He immediately went to the site and saw that the earthen protection had collapsed and water had started coming out through the cracks. Without wasting any time, he started thinking about the possible solutions to stop the water from breaking the protection wall.

He then soon got up with the idea of using cement to seal the breach in the wall and ordered cement bags from a nearby factory. His quick action has bought the same quick reaction and he got some bags of cement within minutes. He and with the help of villager and workers, had put all the bags in front of the breach to stop the water from overflowing. He has no time of opening the bags, so he just put the bags as it is.

After working on that big problem since three hours, the water stopped coming out and the villagers were under safe position.  This was done by the quick decision making by the engineer and which helped thousands of lives. Thus villagers had praised the engineer in a way which he won’t ever forget in his life.
