Freedom 251 Online Booking Closed By Ringing Bells Now

Those who are eagerly willing to book the World’s Cheapest Smartphone ‘Freedom 251’ will be disappointed as the Company Ringing Bells has closed the booking for the phone. Though the phone costs Rs. 251, people were very much attracted for the phone despite of the features in it. The company said they got a massive response beyond their expectations.

India’s cheapest Smartphone from little-known Ringing Bells has raised eyebrows across the world with its unbelievable Rs 251 price tag. The company launched Freedom 251 on February 17 and announced booking will be held for February 18 to 22. The website got 6 lakh hits per second and crashed. It left many wondering if the website would ever be restored.

The reports have also indicated that Freedom 251 is a mere rebranded version of ‘Made in China’ Adcom Ikon 4 Smartphone. The tech community raised flags against the pricing and many tech CEOs thought the device with Indian Flag imprint undermines the whole ‘Make In India’ initiative.

Company to deliver 7.35 crore phones in 2016:

Ringing Bells president Ashok Chadha said that since the company will hand over 25 lakh ‘Freedom 251’ mobiles to the people who have registered for it online. “The pre-booking numbers we received for Freedom 251 are sheer humongous. I am happy that so many Indians have responded to our ‘Make in India’ Smartphone call. Now the onus is on us to deliver on the promise and I am hopeful that we will be able to start delivery latest by April 10 and finish well before the June 30 deadline,” Chadha said.

“Till 11am on Saturday, a total of 7.35 crore people have booked the Rs 251 smartphone. We had to shut down online bookings because we are prepared to deliver only this much handsets. However, only 30,000 people have paid the amount, including shipping charges, so far. Rest of the buyers will pay once the phone is delivered,” Mohit Kumar Goel, founder of the company, said.

The Freedom 251 mobile will be handed over on a first-come-first-serve basis, the company  announced.
