4-Year-Old Girl Forced To Sit On Hot Iron Slide As Punishment By Teacher

ELURU: At a private school in Andhra Pradesh, a 4-year-old girl was made to sit on hot iron playground slide in the middle of the afternoon by her teacher as a punishment. The girl sustained severe burns on her private parts. Police have registered a case on the teacher.

The girl Jwalastri, a student of LKG in the ‘Hope English Medium School’ in Eluru town of Andhra Pradesh was allegedly forced by her teacher to sit on the iron playground slide for 30 minutes under hot sun for urinating inside classroom. The girl sustained burns on her private parts due to the incident.

But the authorities of the school called Hope -an English medium school in Eluru town allegedly refused to take action against the teacher concerned even when the parents complained. Later, they approached the police who have filed cases against the teacher, the principal and the school ayah.

“Jwalasri’s teacher Anjana Devi punished her for urinating inside the classroom by forcing her sit on a hot iron slide at school,” Eluru DSP Sarita said. “Her private parts sustained injuries. The girl was then taken to the hospital and the issue has been informed to the child authorities as well,” she added.

The girl’s parents lodged a complaint against the school principal Dhanalakshmi and teacher Anajan Devi in this connection. Police have registered a case under section 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt) and 341 (wrongful restraint) of the IPC and Juvenile Justice Care and Protection Act.

The school authorities, however, claimed that the child got onto the iron slide “by accident” and it was not punishment. After the incident, a protest was also held by the students’ organization, demanding action against the school authorities. The state child rights body has taken note of the incident and issued notices to the district collector and Superintendent of Police, asking for details.
