In yet another horrifying incident, an eight-year-old girl, who was sleeping outside her house along with her family members, was abducted and raped in outer Delhi’s Aman Vihar area last week. The incident of abduction was caught on a CCTV camera installed in the nearby lane of Kiradi area at the outskirts of Delhi.

The video footage showed a young man carrying a girl through the lane and it can be clearly seen that the accused putting his hand on girl’s mouth and abducting her away. The accused was arrested today after he was verified through CCTV. The police investigating the case said that the accused is a stranger to the family and lives in another lane in the same locality.

According to reports, the incident took place on May 27 at 1:30 am when the girl was sleeping next to her brother outside their hut.  The girl’s mother, aunt, and grandmother were also sleeping outside the house.

According to police sources, the accused has confessed to the crime during questioning. He told the police that he was roaming around in the area when he found the girl sleeping. Taking an advantage of the scene, the accused took the girl to an open area barely 200 meters from her house and raped her, said police. After the incident, he ran away, while the girl found her way back to her house.

“My daughter woke me up and she was crying. When I asked her what had happened, she said somebody had beaten her up. My husband, who was sleeping inside the house, came out and gave her some water,” the girl’s mother told The Indian Express. “She slept that night but the next morning, I realized she was bleeding. I informed other family members and we rushed her to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital. The doctors told us that she had been raped and it was a police case.”

The girl is recuperating in the hospital and her condition is stable, said police sources.

The accused works as a laborer in a plastic factory. The girl is a class three student at a private school. A case under sections 363 (abduction) and 376 (rape) and relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) Act has been registered at Aman Vihar police station.

This incident again raises the question of safety of women in Delhi.
