Google and Microsoft Offers Free Skype and Hangout Calls to France

After the dark events took place in Paris and France recently due to a string of appalling terrorist attacks, the city was gripped by chaos. Everyone is trying their best to help the victims of Paris and France. Many tech companies such as Microsoft and Google are reaching out and doing whatever they can to help customers communicate with friends, family and beloved ones. These major tech companies have made Skype and Hangout calls free for a few days. This is truly an awful consequence that happened in Paris on Friday evening which left behind more people dead.

Google Hangouts provides Free Calls

For those people who are outside France, Google and Microsoft are providing free Skype and Hangout calls in order to get in touch with their family who may have been caught up in the terrible events. Google has announced via a Google+ post that all calls to France via its Hangouts app are free of the international charges they would normally incur.

Skype Offers Free Calls to France

Microsoft Skype also offers free calls to France so as to help the friends and relatives of the attack victims. Skype, the video chat service provider has made all calls to mobiles and landlines in France free for the next few days following the aftermath of the brutal attacks in the city.

In a blog post, Skype writes, “In light of the devastating events that have taken place in Paris, we want to help people stay in touch with friends, family and colleagues. So, with immediate effect we are making all domestic and international calls to landlines and mobiles in France free of charge* for the next few days.”

Users can take benefit of free calling from their PCs, smartphones, and tablets. In order to make a call from a mobile or landline number via Skype, users need to choose call phones tab on the smartphone, tablet or PC, select the country and then enter the phone number of the recipient. However, there are few exceptions that exclude calls made to special, premium service and non-geographical numbers. Such calls will not be treated as free calls. Although Skype has made free calling, terms & services and, Internet and mobile fees may still apply.

T-Mobile, Sprint and Verizon – Telecom Companies Offer Free Calls to France

Major telecommunication corporations in the U.S. are also making their services temporarily free of charge to connect the people with the families in Paris and France. T-Mobile, Sprint and Verizon are part of the group of telecoms in the United States that are offering free calls to France. Verizon wrote on its website that along with more than 170,000 of the company’s employees, spread condolences to the victims of Paris attacks.

As a show of support and sympathy, Verizon is allowing its customers with free cell and home calls along with free text messages and international calls to France for few days. Sprint is offering free calls and texts to France for all customers, prepaid and postpaid, with no end date at the moment.

Similarly, in a Google+ post, the search giant has also announced calls made to France via Hangouts app will be free of the international charges. The post reads, “We’re thinking of you, Paris. No fees on calls to France, via Hangouts. #ParisAttacks” Google hasn’t added any geographical restrictions and the calls can be made from anywhere in the world.

Besides all these companies, Facebook also activated its Safety Check tool in Paris after the dreadful terror attacks. Facebook’s new safety check tool helps you to inform your friends that you are fine. This tool is meant for  natural disaster prone areas and it has got a lot of appreciation on social media. All the tech companies have responded in a good way to help the victims of Paris attacks.
