A horrible incident took place in Mathura in a clash between Police and People. When Police moved to evict thousands of members of a sect from a public park, were attacked with swords, knives, guns, and grenades. Police gave a counter attack by opening fire.

Mukul Dwivedi, Superintendent of Police, who was leading the eviction drive, was hit on the head with a stone. Later he died in the hospital. His colleague Santhosh Kumar Yadav was shot in the head. Almost 24 members of the sect were killed in the massive riot. 1000 Policemen tried to control the massive attack but it’s too late.

400 followers of the sect known as Swadhin Bharat Vidhik Satyagraha have been arrested. Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav said, ‘I did not anticipate that the members of the sect would attack with the arms and grenades.’ He added that a severe action will be taken soon against the encroachers.

This entire riot was started when the court clearance operation was launched to remove hundreds of tents and makeshift wooden structures from a 260-acre plot occupied by the sect since late 2014. Swadhin Bharat Vidhik Satyagraha’s followers’ demands include the abolition of elections and cheaper fuel for everyone.

“The sect members opened fire from automatic weapons after taking the position on tree tops. The area was filled with smoke following explosions from hand grenades and LPG cylinders and several huts caught fire,” Javeed Ahmed, Police officer in Uttar Pradesh said. Home Minister Rajnath Singh has offered all assistance from the centre to Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, who has ordered an inquiry into the fatal clash.
