Corporators from Cherlapally Bonthu Rammohan Rao on Thursday unanimously elected the Greater Hyderabad mayor by the newly-elected corporators and ex-officio members at the GHMC council hall. Corporator from Borabanda Division Baba Fasiuddin, elected as Deputy Mayor. TRS corporator Kavitha proposed Mr Rammohan’s name for the mayor’s post and Shashi Kumar proposed Mr Fasiuddin’s name.

Rammohan Known For Lavish Tributes to Chief Minister KCR

The new mayor of Hyderabad is, unsurprisingly, a man known for expressing his loyalty to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao or KCR, as he is known. KTR officially declared their names for the posts at a breakfast meeting hosted for all the newly-elected corportators in TRS Bhavan.

“I thank Chief Minister KCR garu and KTR garu for selecting me as mayor. It’s a historic occasion since an ordinary worker like me has been selected for the mayor post. I am indebted to both of them,” Mr Rammohan told DC.

He added, “It has been proved once again that those who serve the party sincerely are rewarded. People have shown immense faith in KCR’s leadership and his administrative capabilities in the last 18 months.”

“The drainage system was designed for 30-lakh population, while the city has grown rapidly and it is insufficient. Hyderabad should be slum-less city and must have signal-less traffic movement,” he said.

“I never dreamt of being named for this august post. I stood by KCR during thick and thin and obeyed party orders. It only shows sincere party workers are duly rewarded,” he added.

After their election, the mayor and deputy mayor called on the CM and sought his blessings.

From student leader to Hyderabad Mayor:

Rammohan Rao completed his B.A. and L.L.B. degrees in Warangal. Later, he secured M.A. and L.L.M. degrees from Osmania University where he emerged as a student leader.

Having joined the TRS in 2002, he became the president of the party’s student and youth wings. He married J. Sridevi of Ameerpet. The couple is blessed with two children Kujitha, 9, and Ushasri, 5.

One of the trusted aides of TRS supremo and Chief Minister KCR, the young leader aspired for MLA ticket either from Sanathnagar or Uppal constituencies. Despite being denied of the opportunity, Rammohan continued to be loyal to KCR. And that has apparently paid dividends to him when search started for suitable candidates for Hyderabad Mayor’s post from the TRS.
