Hyderabad: Osmania University Students Prefer Telangana Govt Jobs Over UPSC
Students from Osmania University, particularly those coming from rural milieu, seem to prefer state government jobs over UPSC jobs. To aid students, the varsity has come up with a cell called ‘Equal Opportunities Cell’ (EOC) which conducts classes to help the students crack Group I and Group II examinations conducted by the Telangana State Public Service Commission.
In 2015, more than 4,600 students were registered with EOC. While attendance in regular classes in OU is usually thin, the classes conducted by the EOC of the university are witnessing thick attendance.
OU students find UPSC tougher, opt for state tests:
Since the cell’s establishment in 2012, more than 300 students attending these classes got placed for positions like sub-inspectors, child development project officers, assistant public prosecutors and village revenue officers since the cell’s establishment in 2012.
Finding the UPSC a wee bit tougher, the students are veering towards the state level tests. When asked, an EOC official said the reason lies in the fact that the students lack English skills and the UPSC exam is quite tough.
Apart from this, though Rs.1.25 crore has been allotted to the cell, only Rs 30 lacks have been released in the last three years. This restrains EOC to classroom teaching, and not providing additional resources.
