Hyderabad To Host Two-day Cardiology Meet From July 9

The Twin cities’ cardiologists are organising a two-day academically significant Interventional cardiology meet on July 9 and 10 at the Park Hyatt, an event being branded as ‘Hyderabad Live’. At least 500 delegates from across the country will attend the two-day conference.

On Wednesday, a joint press conference was held in Hyderabad, where renowned Interventional Cardiologists from the City, including Dr K. Sarat Chandra, Chief Cardiologist from Indo-US Hospital, Dr Sridhar Kasturi, Chief Interventional Cardiologist from Sun Shine Hospital and Dr C. Raghu from Prime Hospital were present.

Addressing the conference, Cardiologist, Dr Sarat Chandra says, “Acute Heart Attack, known as STEMI (ST-elevation myocardial infarction) is a full blown heart attack resulting in the death of a portion of the heart muscle. This happens due to complete blockage of the artery leading to stoppage of blood flow to the heart muscle.”

A patient with STEMI needs prompt treatment and every minute makes a difference for such patients. The STEMI, in addition to pain and distress for the patient, can cause sudden death from acute heart failure or abnormal heart beating. Often the patient with STEMI may not make it to the hospital due to sudden death.

Another major concern in saving a person includes the heavy traffic in the twin cities that could delay the patient reaching the hospital, where angioplasty can be performed.

All the Cardiologists present at the event even regretted that primary angioplasty, which is the ideal treatment in such conditions was still not as popular enough as it should be in India.

These and other concerns related to STEMI will come under the scanner when top cardiologists in and around the twin cities will pitch their brains together in  two-day Cardiology meet.
