ICC World Cup Warm Up Match Details:

This will be the first of the 14-match warm-ups to take place before the start of the tournament. The 11th edition of the World Cup will be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand and last for nearly one and a half months, including 59 matches.

Last time the cricket’s biggest tournament took place Down Under was in 1992, when Pakistan beat New Zeaalnd to win their first and only World Cup title till date.

India Vs Australia 1st Warm Up Match:

India will begin their World Cup campaign against Pakistan at the same venue. They have gone through almost two and a half months in Australia without a single win. After a well-fought Test series, Indian batsmen failed the test in the tr-series that followed against England and Australia. The main issue for India, going into this World Cup, lies in the bowling, with the likes of Ishant Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ravindra Jadeja still under an injury cloud.

For India, MS Dhoni will hope to have a settled and fit bowling lineup for the World Cup, Shikhar Dhawan remains a major concern in the opening slot, and the sooner the left-hander can find some serious form, the better. Virat Kohli, India’s best batsman, did not have the greatest of times in the tri-series either, unable to carry on his tremendous form from the Test matches, but class should eventually tell as the World Cup moves on.

Dhoni has stated he is still not sure about India’s final XI makeup – whether to go with six pure batsmen or five bowlers, and these two warm-up games will hopefully give him a better idea.

For Australia, there really is nothing much to worry about in terms of form, after they ran through England to clinch the tri-series title with ease. Michael Clarke, will not be available for the warm-up games and the first official match, but it looks like he will be able to prove his fitness by Australia’s second WC encounter against Bangladesh.
