India vs Pakistan ICC World T20 Match To Clash With Earth Hour 2016

India take on Pakistan in their 2nd Group 2 match after a crushing 47-run defeat against New Zealand in the opening game of the ‘Super 10’ round of the ICC World T20 2016. While the India vs Pakistan clash has overcome several obstacles, the most prominent being the change of venue from Dharamsala to Kolkata, a new obstacle has emerged. Here’s another obstacle.

On March 19, the day cricket lovers are gearing up for as India take on Pakistan at the ICC World T20 World Cup, the world shall participate in Earth Hour 2016 — an event that asks people across the globe to switch off all non-essential lights between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

What is Earth Hour?

Earth Hour is a worldwide movement for the planet organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). The event is held worldwide annually encouraging individuals, communities, households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. towards the end of March, as a symbol for their commitment to the planet.

Earth Hour is calling on citizens across the country to support not only the campaign by switching off non-essential lights for the hour, but also the government’s pledge to move toward renewable energy for a sustainable future. WWF-India’s Earth Hour campaign advocates a solar-powered future by urging its supporters to “go solar”.

Indian Cricketer Dhawan Support to Earth Hour:

Shikhar Dhawan also asked cricket fans all over the country to switch off all other non-essential lights for an hour and watch the historic India-Pakistan T20 ICC World Cup match scheduled for 19 March in the dark. He said, “As we chase our dream of becoming World Champions again, we are counting on you to help us realize our dream of a greener planet! Let’s stand together against climate change.”

From a token switch-off movement that started in 2007, the Earth Hour has grown to become a global movement that seeks to create a positive environmental impact, and bring in legislative changes by harnessing the power of numbers.
