Report: Do You Know Indians Spend 47% of Time On Apps

Are you a Smartphone user? Have you ever observed in a whole day, how much time do you spend in using your Smartphone? Smartphone usage has been increasing day – by- day in order to communicate with friends and beloved ones who are staying far away in some other places. The only way of connecting the people is just through the communication devices like smartphones, laptops, tab, etc. People are heavily addicted to smartphones because of the social media apps such as WhatsApp, Hike, Line, We Chat, Skype, Viber, etc . Interestingly, a report revealed that, Indians spend 47 per cent of their time on their smartphones specifically on all these above mentioned communication which are having a significant role in mobile broadband usage.

In a recent survey conducted by Ericsson, a Telecom Equipment maker in Sweden they tried to find out the people who are using smartphones in different countries like India, Us, UK, Japan, South Korea and others. The survey was conducted by the Telecom Company by using more than 7500 users of Android Smartphone present in India. Shocking results have been found out through this survey report that most of the Indian Smartphone users are spending 47 per cent of their time by using the popular communication apps like WhatsApp, Skype, Line, Hike, etc.

Survey Reveals Shocking Facts

This is the most concerning issue regarding the people of India that, they are spending their precious time on these smartphones at every place like colleges, workplace, home, etc. 47 % of time being spent by the smartphone users in India means you can imagine in what way they got addicted to these social apps. More than the average time in a whole day, people are very much interested in using these apps rather than spending time for their family and relations. If this continues, communication will definitely dominate the human relations.

“Communication continues to be the dominant activity on smartphones. Communication apps are ‘always on’ and are a key driver of mobile broadband usage,” the report by Swedish telecom equipment maker Ericsson said.

Ericsson also added: “As per our report, Indians spend 47 percent of time using communications apps such as voice, instant messaging, voice over internet protocol (example Skype), emails and social networking on smartphones.”

People are totally engrossed in using these social media apps for the purpose of instant communication like Voice, Instant Messaging, Video Calling, Voice over Internet Protocol (e.g. Skype), Emails and social networking on smartphones. As it displays ‘always on’ status for all these apps on the smartphones, they show higher dependency on the mobile broadband usage.

Report Analysis

The Survey was conducted among the smartphone users from five different countries like India, Japan, South Korea, the UK, and the US. The report analysed the app usage of all the smartphone users across the five countries. The Survey particularly focused on the app usage behaviour by the people using smartphones especially from India. This report reveals how people are influenced by such trending social media apps.

Swetleena Swain, the Senior Advisor at Ericsson Consumer Lab said: “We found that 40-50 per cent of data consumption for communication apps uses mobile broadband, whereas the corresponding figure for video is just 20 per cent.”

However, all these apps are developed for the purpose of communicating with others in a fast way, but this has become as addiction for most of the people.
