Today morning Suvra Mukherjee, India’s first lady and wife of President of India Pranab Mukherjee passed away in the early morning. Suvra Mukherjee was an acclaimed singer, writer and author breathed her last breath on Tuesday morning. President Pranab Mukherjee wife Suvra Mukherjee passed away at 10:51 am in Delhi at Army Hospital.

Suvra Mukherjee passes away on Tuesday morning at 10.51am who had been reported to be ill since past couple of weeks. Close sources of President Pranab Mukherjee claimed that Suvra Mukherkjee was admitted to the hospital on Friday evening after she was found to be suffering  a respiratory problem.

Being affected with cardiac ailments in the past, she was admitted to ICU (Intensive Care Unit) in the hospital and was undergoing advanced treatment. Although the 74-year-old first lady health status deteriorated in the morning resulting her demise. Officially, Rashtrapati Bhawan said “It is informed with deep sorrow that First Lady Smt. Suvra Mukherjee passed away this morning (August 18, 2015). She left for her heavenly abode at 1051 am” in an official statement.

India’s first lady Suvra Mukherjee was born on 17th September 1940 in Jessore (now in Bangladesh) and was raised in  Narail, Bangladesh. She immigrated along with her family to Kolkata during her childhood when she was 10. First citizen of India Pranab Mukherjee passed married to Suvra Mukherjee on July 13, 1957. Suvra Mukherjee is survived by two sons Abhijit Mukherjee, Indrajit Mukherjee and a daughter Sharmistha Mukherjee.

First Lady Suvra Mukherjee Was an Accomplished Author, Singer, Writer and Poet

Apart from being the wife of the president of India she had her own identity as an accomplished author, singer, writer and poet. Being an ardent fan of India’s national poet and Nobel laureate Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore she performed in the poet’s dance-dramas for many years in India and many other nations abroad such as in Europe, Asia and Africa.

She also founded ‘Geetanjali Troupe’ to disseminate Nobel laureate Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore’s philosophy which he expressed in his songs and dance-dramas. ‘Geetanjali Troupe’ recounted that she was the motive force behind all productions of them. Being bestowed with skills of painting she was highly talented in it and held many group and solo exhibitions to her credit and considered her mother as the source of her creative inspiration. Suvra Mukherjee composed two books Chokher Aloey and Chena Achenai Chin which were based on her close interaction with former prime minister of India Smt. Indira Gandhi and other one was based on her visit to the neighboring nation China.
