Social Media Outrages At Judge Who Asked Rape SURVIVOR ‘Why Couldn’t You Keep Your Knees Together’ During Trial
Back in 2014, a 19-year-old homeless girl was raped by a man named Alexander Scott Wagner in a bathroom sink during a house party in Canada. The trial took place in Calgary, Canada.
Reportedly, the provincial court judge, Robin Camp, not only acquitted Alexander Scott but also asked controversial questions to the victim, one of which was: “Why couldn’t you just keep your knees together?”
This wasn’t the only question which has outraged people across the world. He even asked her, “Why didn’t you just sink your bottom down into the basin so he couldn’t penetrate you?”
According to an ‘Independent’ report, in response to the judge’s remarks on the rape victim, several legal experts from the University of Calgary have claimed that his remarks showed a clear prejudice towards disbelieving the victim.
The judge has also repeatedly referred to her as “the accused”. How can he refer to her as ‘accused’ as she is the victim here? We can rather refer her as the ‘Survivor’ who fought a fight.
This all things has irked many people and Twitterati, of course, had much to say on this.

After these controversial statements were released in public, there were a lot of complaints asking for his formal written apology for being insensitive towards the rape survivor. Robin Camp has also faced the hearing in Calgary before the Canadian Judicial Council in September and could lose his job.
Robin Camp underwent training and counselling with a judge, psychologist and expert on sexual assault, where he is expected to interrogate his beliefs and improve his understanding of the law, the social context of sexual violence, and the psychological impact of a sexual assault.
In his public submission to the CJC, Robin apologised and agreed he had made insensitive and inappropriate remarks during the trial but assures that the counselling has now made him a better person and he will be a better judge. And that because of his change of heart, he should be allowed to remain on the bench.
Judge Robin Camp has been currently suspended from hearing cases. A five-member committee will look into the Robin Camp’s case and will decide whether he should be allowed to remain on the bench at the Federal Court despite his comments. But, many people are against the notion and demand his resignation from the post.
