Kapil Dev Comments Sachin Tendulkar, “Sachin Didn’t Do Justice To His Talent, He Is No God”

Former India Captain Kapil Dev, one of the great cricket icons in the cricket world made few comments on Little Master Sachin Tendulkar. Loads of cricket fans treat Sachin as cricket god. Kapil Dev commented and chose to point out the flaws, mistakes of Sachin. Fans now question How dare he! Hasn’t he heard the voices saying that if cricket is religion, Tendulkar is the presiding God. Hasn’t he seen a hundred banners proclaiming this from the stands at cricket stadium?

In India, cricket is indeed a religion. Cricket is the only game in India that brings all the people together. It is our national obsession and almost an article of faith. Sachin Tendulkar is one of the icons for cricket in India. He is beyond scrutiny.  Kapil Dev stated that Sachin, despite his numerous records, he didn’t have done full justice to his talent. “Sachin Tendulkar did not know how to make double hundreds, triple hundreds and 400 though he had the ability to scale such peaks.”

“Don’t get me wrong, but I think Sachin didn’t do justice to his talent,” Kapil was quoted. Kapil also suggested that Sachin could have changed himself more on Vivian Richards and played like Virender Sehwag. “Sachin got stuck with Bombay cricket. He didn’t apply himself to ruthless international cricket. I think he should have spent more time with Vivian Richards than some of the Bombay guys who played just neat and straight cricket,” Kapil said.

This comments will surely result to rile a lot of Sachin fans across the country. It is clear that Kapil took a dig at Mumbai Cricket while speaking about Sachin. Reacting to Kapil’s comments, former India captain Ajit Wadekar told, “Records didn’t matter to Sachin. He played for the team. And when it comes to Bombay school of cricket, I think Sachin knew how to win games. That’s what’s important.”

Kapil said, “He (Sachin) had the ability. He was technically sound, but I felt he was there to get his hundred and that’s it. Unlike Richards, Sachin wasn’t ruthless; he was more of a perfect, or rather a correct cricketer. Had I spent more time with him I would have told him ‘Go and enjoy yourself, play like Virender Sehwag’. You will be a much better cricketer.” We all know Sehwag wasn’t exactly a batting technician like Rahul Dravid, and his footwork at the crease was virtually non-existent.

He relied more on his incredible hand-eye coordination and balance to score those tons of runs. Tendulkar’s technique, however, was pretty speckles. Strangely enough, neither Dravid nor Tendulkar has a Test triple century to his name, while Sehwag has four double and two triple centuries. Kapil made these comments at an event in Dubai Hotel in which legends like Shane Warne, Wasim Akram and Ian Botham are present. Former Mumbai captain Shishir Hattangadi said, “It’s an elder brother kind of observation.

If the report is true, I feel Kapil felt Sachin was capable of much more, without undermining what he has achieved.” It is said that Kapil has been critical of Tendulkar on many occasions in the past. Now each and every Sachin fan is trolling on Kapil’s comments. Nearly 35,000 international runs, 100 international centuries, most number of centuries and half-centuries in both Tests and ODIs, a long 24 years of international cricket. Surely the master didn’t need a certificate from Kapil.
