Kerala Temple Fire: Over 100 People Dead After Explosion During Fireworks Display At Puttingal Temple
In Kollam temple tragedy growing clamour for ban on the temple fireworks that are displayed in kerala in wake of Kollam Temple tragedy which is the Travancore Devaswom Board. This Board manages about 1,255 temples in state said on Monday that this is not a complete ban but for few.
“But it should be as per the restrictions of government and court orders with sufficient safety measures”, he said, adding, “In various temples fireworks display is part of temple rituals and we cannot ban it”, he said.
The Board issued a circular in which it stated that fireworks display be carried out only according to the rules and regulations mentioned by the board previously. This circular is distributed to all the temples under it. I am in favour with ‘Total Ban’ on heavy fireworks, said the Board member Ajay Tharayil.
“In the name of rituals and traditions, we have limitations. We can regulate them (display of fireworks) but not ban them”, he said.
Meanwhile, Prof M Kutty, President of the Thiruvambadi Devaswom said, “We will be conducting the festival, observing all legal formalities”. He is one of the organisers of the famous Thrissur Pooram to be held on April 17.
Government should consider the issue of banning the fireworks display in the light of tragedy said the senior congress minister and Former Union Minister A K Anotony. 109 found dead due to unauthorized fireworks displayed yesterday at Puttingal Devi Temple. So government should take this issue seriously and take some action regarding this ban of fireworks.
