Lenovo Bids ‘Goodbye’ to Vibe Brand to Pave Way for More Motorola Handsets: Report

Lenovo, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer is now planning to discontinue its Vibe brand so as to completely focus on its Motorola brand, which it had acquired from the tech giant, Google. According to a report, Lenovo bids goodbye to its Vibe brand to make way for more handsets from its Motorola brand. Lenovo stands in the fourth place among the other top branded smartphone manufacturers in the world. Securing the fourth position is the strengthening of the company brand. Lenovo has acquired product recognition in the overseas markets because of its innovation and global expansion.

Lenovo says goodbye to vibe brand

Still, the company targets to enhance its rankings by simplifying its product range. The Chinese smartphone maker maintains three smartphone brands namely Motorola, Vibe and Lemon. Lenovo has been selling its mobile phones under these three brands. Last year, Lenovo has acquired Motorola Mobility from the tech giant, Google. The company sells all its smartphones starting from the mid-range to high-end smartphones under the Vibe brand. Recently, the company has unveiled Lenovo Vibe S1 smartphone with dual-front cameras and Lenovo Vibe X3 smartphone. 

Lenovo to Abandon Vibe Brand

Lenovo has launched a plenty of high-end smartphones under the Vibe brand. Last month, the company has launched duo high-end range of smartphones such as the Lenovo Vibe P1, and the Lenovo Vibe S1 in India with a massive battery. But Chen Xudong, president of Lenovo’s Mobile Business Group reportedly told Tech QQ that the company is abandoning the Vibe lineup of smartphones.

Lenovo abandons Vibe brand

The report also adds that, Lemon, which is one of the brands of Lenovo will utilise some of Vibe’s hardware as part of the transition. Lenovo maintains three brands and Lemon is one among the brands. The Chinese company sells all its entry-level and mid-range of smartphones under the Lemon brand such as the Lenovo K3 Note in India. Research firm Canalys says that Lenovo kills its Vibe smartphone brand and this move indicates the company makes way to more Motorola devices. This will eventually help the company to lessen cannibalising of its own products and simplifying its portfolio.

Lenovo Plans to Double the Smartphone Production in India

As of now, Lenovo is among the top five smartphone brands in India. It aims to bring forward it’s ranking in the fastest growing market worldwide. Now, the company is planning to double its production of smartphones in India to almost 10 million probably by next year so that it can expand its market share.

Chen Xudong, president of the mobile business group of Lenovo and chairman of Motorola Mobility’s operating board, said, “We will increase the local production to 10 million units next year. Right now, we have a peak capacity of 6 million”.

The report also adds that Lenovo plans to export from its Chennai facility and will make more models in India. Lenovo had said it was confined to India in terms of investment in areas of manufacturing and research and development. “In three years, we have reached a revenue of $2.5 billion in India compared to a target of $800 million when we came to this country which is fast evolving in the area of technology,” Lenovo chairman and chief executive Yang Yuanqing had said.

Lenovo seems to completely focus on its acquired brand, Motorola and manufacture more mid-to-high-end range smartphones under that brand. Lenovo is also planning to take the second spot in India by doubling the local production to 10 million units annually by next year.
