Liga – Jorge Mendes: Cristiano Ronaldo worth at least £300m
Since the day Cristiano Ronaldo joined Real Madrid from Manchester United in 2009, various rumours of the Portuguese star making a return to the Premier League have surfaced. The rumours gained momentum in recent times, especially when Ronaldo claimed that he was unhappy at Real Madrid.
Speaking in an interview with the BBC, Mendes, who is the most powerful agent in football, said clubs would be interested in Ronaldo if he came on the open market for the astronomical fee.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes claims that the Real Madrid star will fetch at least £300 million if he is allowed to leave.
Jorge Mendes, the Ballon d’Or winner’s agent, said that Ronaldo is the best player in the world and if Real Madrid decide to put him up for sell, he will fetch at least £300 million. However, Mendes also confirmed that Ronaldo will not leave Real Madrid.
Asked how much he was worth, Mendes said: “Cristano Ronaldo? One billion. His buyout clause one billion, so it is one billion.
“If, for any reason, the club decide to sell him tomorrow for 300 million, someone will pay.”
Mendes was quick to retaliate that his countryman will not leave the Spanish giants.
“He will not leave Real Madrid,” Mendes told BBC sports editor Dan Roan.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent, Mendes, has reportedly brokered deals worth more than £1 billion and is believed to be one of the most powerful men in football. Mendes, a former DJ and nightclub owner, also represents Jose Mourinho, Luiz Felipe Scolari, Radamel Falcao, Angel Di Maria, James Rodriguez, David De Gea, Victor Valdes and Diego Costa.
“People have the wrong idea about agents,” said Mendes.
“Being an agent means many different things. I’m someone normal, I’m working hard every single day. I have ambitions, determination and being honest, doing the right things… this is most important.”
The Portuguese forward, who still has four years left in his contract, has time and again mentioned his love for his former club Manchester United. But after winning the European Golden Shoe in November 2014, the forward confirmed that he wants to see out his current contract with Los Blancos and then he will see what happens.

“I hope to finish my contract with Real Madrid at 33 and after that we’ll see if they want me to stay,” said Ronaldo.
“I feel young and still a long way off retiring.”
The 29-year old is currently serving a two match suspension after receiving a red card against Cordoba for kicking an opponent. Ronaldo is having a great season so far for Real Madrid having scored 28 league goals and provided 9 assists in just 18 appearances.
