Malli Mastan Babu, one of India’s top mountaineers, who went missing after he went on a climb up the high mountains between Argentina and Chile, has been found dead, according to Times Now. Malli Mastan Babu was a top Indian mountaineer, having achieved the feat of becoming the “fastest seven summiteer” in the world (172 days in 2006, during which he climbed seven summits on seven days of the week in each calendar month). He is also the first Indian to summit Mt Vinson Massif, the tallest peak in Antarctica and the first person from Andhra Pradesh to scale the Everest.

An announcement on Facebook page ‘Rescue Malli Mastan Babu’ created by his friends and well wishers read “Mountains retained its favourite child.. R.I.P Malli Mastan Babu.”

Helicopter teams from Argentina and Chile were searching the Andes mountains for missing Indian mountaineer Malli Mastan Babu, the government said on Friday.

His sister, Malli Dorsan Amma, had earlier alleged that time is running out for Babu and nothing was being done to save him. “I am praying to god to fastrack the procedure. I am mostly quiet and calm but my mother always weeps. I am not able to concentrate on anything,” she said.

“It appears that from the base camp he set off alone. The rain worsened after he left. He was supposed to return on the 24th, but did not. The area gets a lot of rains and floods.”

“Since the weather at the time (on that side if the mountain) was bad, the authorities thought he might have climbed down the Chile side. But beyond that there was no rescue operation for two days.”

Malli Mastan made India proud by becoming the quickest mountaineer to climb 7 peaks (172 days). Sadly, his body was found in the Andes, after he went missing 10 days ago.
